JOFRE CULLELL AND OLIVIA ONESTI WIN THE SHIMANO SUPER CUP MASSI SABIÑÁNIGO 2025

Jofre Cullell wins with absolute authority in the Shimano Super Cup Massi Sabiñánigo 2025. The Catalan rider has executed a perfect race, dancing on the mud like no one else, leading his pursuers with a sidereal distance. In the women’s category, Olivia Onesti has taken the victory in an uncontested way ahead of top international riders.

Cullell is crowned in Sabiñánigo with a masterclass on the mud

Shimano Super Cup Massi went to Sabiñánigo for the third race of the season. The second edition of the race at the Santa Lucía circuit will be marked by mud. The rain of the previous night liquefied the heavy mud that covered the track and the day dawned with a somewhat more manageable mud. Even so, the discomfort of running on the muddy track was evident from the start and forced all the runners to work with high doses of skill and endurance.

The organisers were forced to shorten the parts of the course that were most affected by the rain.

The riders appeared on the starting grid and the race started punctually. The first pedal strokes of the peloton made Antoine Philipp the first prominent leader, before David Campos took over the lead when the group was still intact. However, it was Jofre Cullell who decisively assaulted the first position. The Catalan understood that he had to try to open up a gap from the very beginning and what appeared to be an ill-considered outburst turned into the first step towards victory.

Cullell spread his wings and nobody could stop him. The BH Coloma Team rider quickly got rid of his opponents and rode solo with a runaway pace. Cullell dominated the mud at will and, in a display of the technique acquired from cyclo-cross, he put his rivals in an ever-growing hole of seconds.

The race progressed smoothly for Cullell, who enjoyed the discomfort of the mud and emerged as the master of the circuit. Behind, Philipp tried to counter the enormous strength of Cullell, dragging Campos and Francois in the attempt, but nothing could stop the Catalan’s pedal stroke.

Philipp twice and Campos suffered setbacks when the chain came off and they had to make up for lost time. These incidents, added to the impeccable performance of Cullell, ended up sinking the chances of the chasing group.

Cullell crushed the cranks until the finish line and won the Shimano Super Cup Massi Sabiñánigo 2025. Second consecutive victory after the one achieved last year, which rounded off the day by putting on the overall leader’s jersey. For his part, Campos finished exhausted after a long final battle with Philipp, who had to settle for third place.

Olivia Onesti signs a sensational victory

The starting grid full of big international names foreshadowed a close race. Despite the predictions, Onesti stood out right from the start and soon put some distance between himself and his rivals. From this point on, Onesti gave a demonstration of how to run on slippery and tricky mud.

Further back, Janika Loiv – who suffered a fall in the rockgarden without consequences – and Yana Belomoina were the other riders who tried their luck. Despite their attempts, Onesti was one step ahead and continued to beat the pedals all the way to the finish line to seal an unassailable victory.
